Shifnal Seniors Section
Membership of the seniors section is open to all male members of Shifnal Golf Club once they reach the age of 60.
Competitons
There are 3 singles competitions for the Fred Morgan Bowl (stroke play), the Jim Timmins salver (Stableford) and The Roy Wade trophy (Stableford) together with a singles match play for The John Miles Cup and a pairs competition for the Millenium Bowl. During the winter months there are also regular competitions. Trophies and prizes are handed out at the annual Christmas lunch.
Matches
Matches with 14 other local clubs are organised throughout the period from March to October. Selection is organised to ensure that all those who wish to play have a “fair share” of home and away games. Additionally there are matches against the Shifnal Ladies and the Juniors. Most matches kick off mid-morning and are followed by dinner for which players are required to change into jacket and tie.
Other Activities
A Seniors’ Invitation is organised in late July each year. This is not an open competition as invitations are sent only to those clubs against whom matches are played. Profits from the day are passed to the club. The Senior Captain organises an away day which is open to all Seniors. A separately organised but closely affiliated group runs a singles Stableford competition every Tuesday and Friday morning around 8.30 to 9.30 a.m. Prizes are handed out on the day.
How To Get Involved
First step is to locate the Senior’s noticeboard which is the last one on the right in the corridor to the locker room. Lists are posted regularly inviting entry into competitions and selection for matches. Simply enter your name on the lists. Competitions and matches are listed in the club diary and are also available in condensed form in a separate Seniors fixture list.
